Gary Mooney

I started drawing and painting from the earliest memory. My whole life has been involved in and around art, drawing for the school magazine, working as a Commercial Artist, painting, drawing, playing and writing music, acting and tattooing for the past 23 years.

I started tattooing in 1984 working out in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia up until 1995. In that time deciding to compete 3 times, winning best leg and best back at the TAAV (Victorian) show around 1986 and 1989, and best back in the P.T.A.A. national Show in 1991.

I started Tattoo Magic that year in Bayswater, Victoria and after 4 years sold the studio, without it's name, in 1995 to travel overseas taking in such countries as Egypt, Africa, UK, Europe and USA.

I returned home to re-open Tattoo Magic in Fitzroy, Victoria. After a while I realised I wanted to take in more of the world so I sold the studio to Geordie Cole and travelled up to Sydney where I worked at Kiwi Kims Celtic Dragon studio for 3 years while pursuing an acting career which included short films. television work and live theatre.

Finally I moved to the Byron Bay hinterland where I currently reside. During the last 7 years I have studied at the Conservatorium of Music Lismore & played in bands, studied life drawing and tattooed locally.

In 2007 I left Creative Tatoo in Byron Bay and travelled to south east Asia, India and Nepal.

In 2008 I opened Symbology Body Art Studio in Bangalow NSW.
